A game is won when a player scores four (or more) points: 15, 30, 40 and the game-winning point. Should both players make it 40, then the score is called "deuce."
Tennis has a different point system than most sports. Before we go into detail, here is your guide to scoring a game: 0 points= Love; 1 point = 15; 2 points= 30; 3 points= 40; Tied score= All; 40-40 = Deuce; Server wins deuce point = Ad-In; Receiver wins deuce point = Ad-Out
The winner of a tennis game must win with a two point advantage. In other words, if the score is 40-0 and the server wins the next point, the server wins the game. Consequently, if the server loses the next point the score is 40-15 and the server must continue to serve and play out that game.
Simple: one of you has to win by two points. Say your opponent wins the point after you are up 40–30, the score would then be tied, and you would announce: "40–all," otherwise known as "deuce." Now you continue to play until one of you has a two-point advantage and wins the game.
The tennis scores that we use today also resembles the scoring system of this game. 4. How do you score in tennis? In tennis, scores are love, 15,30,40 while love(0) being the starting point. Because tennis is scored set by set and game by game, a player may lose a match despite winning the majority of points and/or games played. Consider a player who wins six games in each of two sets, all by a score of game–30. The winner has scored 4×12 = 48 points and the loser 2×12 = 24.
